Pettistree Village Hall

Restoration and Refurbishment

We were pleased to have our first meeting in the village hall since the main part of the hall had been insulated and new floor fitted and redecorated and the Committee wish to say a very big thank you to Ralph Calver for the excellent work carried out and to Steve Boardley for overseeing the project and to the decorating team of Terry Rowles, Eric Dowker and Ann Sayer. Thanks also to others who have helped in various ways to get this project underway.

We now have a lovely light and airy hall which, when heated, remains warmer and cosier than before. The next stage is the kitchen and again insulation is very necessary, as well as a new floor which as we know from the main hall project, will need the rotten joists replaced.

Work on the kitchen should be carried out over the next few months and during that time the kitchen will be out of commission but access to the meters should be available so the main hall will still be available for Pilates, Carpet Bowls and the Art Group. Also a Zumba class begins on the 9th March. It is good to see the hall used so much. Once more, we apologise for inconvenience caused while the building work is carried out, but it will be worth it for the end result.

Fund raising continues and thanks go to Roger and Mary Chilvers for the £145 raised at the New Year’s Eve Party, a very good evening, enjoyed by those who attended. Hopefully more residents will attend should Roger and Mary stage the event again. All profits this year will go towards the village hall funds. The next event will be a Race night on 17th March, please come along and support the fun evening.

The Hall

Photo of Village Hall exteriorPettistree Village Hall is situated on the northern outskirts of the village in Walnuts Lane. It was built in 1928 after ten years of fund raising by the Women's Institute.

At the Annual General Meeting held on held on Tuesday 12th July 2011 the committee were re-elected en bloc.

Because the Hall is situated in a conservation area it has retained its original hut like exterior of galvanised cladding. By 1992 maintenance was becoming too costly so the WI offered the building to the village for community use. After much fund raising from activities and grants the Hall was refurbished internally with a new fitted kitchen and ladies and gents toilets all with disabled facilities. A further addition has recently been built which allows a more flexible use of the main hall This provides a storage area, the possibility of a bar, or a space for live music as well as a place for refreshments.

The Hall has charitable status and is looked after by a Management Committee with up to twelve members with additional representatives from other organisations in the village.
